Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
RentLens is a Chrome browser extension that helps renters evaluate apartment listings on Zillow and Apartments.com using AI. It is operated by an individual developer based in Massachusetts, USA. We currently serve Boston-area listings and plan to expand to other U.S. markets over time.

2. What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service. This falls into the following categories:
- Email address: collected at sign-up, used for OTP login, account management, and optional emailed analysis results.
- Payment information: credits balance, purchase history, and Stripe customer ID only. Stripe handles all card processing — we never receive or store full card numbers, CVV, or bank details.
- Listing URLs: stored when you run an analysis (required to deliver and store results). This counts as browsing/URL data under Chrome Web Store policy.
- Uploaded photos: if you upload tour or listing photos, they are transmitted over HTTPS for that analysis only. We do not store uploaded photo files or base64 data on our servers — they exist in memory during the request, are sent to Anthropic for AI analysis, and are discarded when the request finishes. Anthropic’s own retention rules apply to data they process (see their privacy policy).
- Usage data: analysis events, credit usage, and analysis type — for billing and debugging only. We do not track general browsing history.
We also store analysis results (scores, verdicts, and component breakdowns) tied to your account so you can review past analyses and request emailed summaries.
3. How we use your information
- To run analyses and return results to you
- To manage your account and credits
- To process payments via Stripe
- To send transactional emails: OTP codes, analysis results you request, purchase receipts, and account notices
- To send occasional product emails: feature updates and offers (a few times per year). Every non-essential email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at hello@rentlens.io.
- We never sell your data
- We never use your data to train AI models
- We never share data beyond what is needed to operate the service
4. Third-party services
We use trusted providers to operate RentLens. Each may process user data only as needed to perform their role:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): listing photos and text sent for AI analysis. Privacy policy
- Resend: email delivery for OTP codes, analysis results, receipts, and product communications. Privacy policy
- Stripe: payment processing (PCI DSS compliant). We store only your Stripe customer ID. Privacy policy
- Supabase: database hosting for account data, credits, short-term analysis cache, and listing URLs. U.S.-hosted infrastructure. Privacy policy
- Google Maps Platform: commute times and walkability scores. We send listing addresses only — not your personal information. Privacy policy
5. Data retention
- Account data: retained while your account is active, plus 90 days after you request deletion
- Analysis results and listing URLs: stored in a short-term idempotency cache for up to 7 days (so retries don’t double-charge), then deleted automatically. We do not keep a long-term analysis archive on our servers.
- Uploaded photos: not stored on our servers (see section 2)
- Payment records: 7 years (tax and accounting requirements)
- To delete your account: open the RentLens extension, tap the subtle ··· link at the bottom of the panel, and choose Delete account. You can also email hello@rentlens.io.
6. Cookies and local storage
- No tracking cookies
- No advertising pixels
- Chrome extension local storage used only on your device for your email and session state
- No analytics or third-party tracking scripts on this site
7. Data security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, access controls on our systems, and no storage of full payment card details on our servers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the event of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
8. Children's privacy
RentLens is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact hello@rentlens.io and we will delete it.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access: request a copy of your data
- Correction: request we fix inaccurate data
- Deletion: request account and data deletion
- Portability: request your data in a machine-readable format
- Opt-out of marketing emails at any time
Email hello@rentlens.io to exercise these rights. We respond within 30 days and may verify your identity first.
10. California residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to know what personal information we have collected
- Right to delete your personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising CCPA rights
- We do not sell personal information to third parties

11. Solo operator notice
RentLens is operated by an individual developer, not a corporation or LLC. While we take privacy seriously and follow the practices described in this policy, users should understand they are engaging with an individual-operated service. This policy represents our genuine commitments to you.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to your registered address and by updating the effective date above. Continued use of RentLens after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
